Hosanna in the Highest
Hosanna in the Highest is a song that I wrote with Kevin Hartnett last year for a children’s choir for Palm Sunday. While I know we’re in the middle of summer, I thought I’d pass it along anyway. I know there are a few out there who collect things like this throughout the year. One of my first interactions with my wife, when we were first getting to know each other two summers ago, was to tell her that I had gone for a run that day in 90 degree weather, and it was a great run because I got to listen to a great Christmas CD while I was running. Needless to say, she was a little confused. We got a good laugh out of it.
Anyway, here’s the song:
Verse One:
He rides upon a donkey;
He heals the blind and lame;
King David was His Father,
Messiah is His name!
He shuts the mouths of demons;
He sets the Temple right;
Let those who love the Kingdom
Rejoice with all their might!
Chorus;
Hosanna in the highest!
Our saving King has come!
Let every hand wave branches
And praise the Promised One!
Verse Two:
Rejoice with us O people,
Behold the Promised Son!
The rocks could rise and shout it:
Our humble Leader’s come!
Old men- lay down your garments;
You children – praises bring;
Lift up your gates, O City,
Arise and greet your King!
Audio, lyrics, and a lead sheet are available at the song’s permanent page.
There’s also a list of songs on the site, if you’re looking for others like it.
The Name of Jesus – Aaron Shust
The Name of Jesus is a song from Aaron’s new album, Whispered and Shouted.
The melody is simple, catchy, and congregation-friendly.
V1
At the name of Jesus every knee will bow
And every tongue confess Him the King of Glory now
It’s the Father’s pleasure that we should call Him Lord
Who from the beginning was the mighty Word
We sing
CHORUS
Glory to the Lord on high
Glory to the Son who came to earth to die
Glory to the Spirit who lifts the name on high:
The name of Jesus, the name of Jesus
V2 talks about how all the angels and all creation lauds him
V3 is a call to let Him be enthrone in our hearts personally
I appreciate that he highlights the work of the different persons of the Trinity in the chorus.
Best of Stuart Townend Live
Stuart Townend has a new “best of” CD. I’m not sure if it’s available yet in the states.

Mark and Stephen Altrogge
Mark and Stephen Altrogge are scheduled to come out with a new CD from Sovereign Grace in the next few months, featuring songs that they’ve written. Stephen has posted one of the songs on his website.
Over the next few weeks, he’s going to be posting some old songs by his dad as well. Here’s an email about it:

Hey Friends,
I recently got my hands on some really old Mark Altrogge recordings and will be posting one a week on my MySpace page for a few weeks (myspace.com/stephenaltrogge). I think these songs were recorded before he was a Christian at some point in the 1970′s. It’s amazing to see how God can change a person and use his or her gifts for His glory.
These songs were recorded using only a guitar and tape recorder so they’re pretty rough at points but it’s still really neat to listen to them. You can also download them if you want.
Please pass this along to any one who might be interested. Thanks!
